The 1st International Conference for Global Chinese Academia on Energy and Built Environment was successfully held in Jinniu Hotel, Chengdu, China, on July 20-22, 2019. This academic conference aimed at establishing a worldwide platform in promoting global cooperation and innovative communications for ethnic Chinese around the world, and sharing the cutting-edge achievements in the utilization of clean-energy, enhancement of energy efficiency via the built environment, and the improvement of environmental quality. It was proposed to conduct discussions on hotspots and difficulties in related fields. The meeting persisted throughout ten months, from preparation to convening and co-sponsored by Southwest Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Hull, Chinese association of Refrigeration, and Sichuan Institute of Refrigeration. Professor Yuan Yanping is the chairman of the conference, and Professor Dai Yanjun, Professor Zhai Zhiqiang, and Professor Zhao Xudong are the co-chairs of the conference.
Conference papers were collected and published in the special issues of Energy, Renewable Energy, Solar Energy, Sustainable Cities and Society. Moreover, Energy and Built Environment, Building Simulation, Journal of Thermal Science, Underground Space gave strong support. During the conference, besides reports provided by four Fellows, 403 academic reports were demonstrated. Thirty workshops, ten oral-presentation sessions, six poster-presentation sessions were held，and 1083 abstracts were received around the whole world.
